LA JOYA, Texas (AP) -- Authorities say two police officers in South Texas have been shot and the suspected shooter has barricaded himself inside a house.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra tells The Monitor of McAllen that the wounded officers are still inside the house because gunfire is continuing.

The shootout happened Tuesday afternoon when officers tried to serve a warrant on a murder suspect. The house is in the Rio Grande Valley town of La Joya.

The warrant accuses the 29-year-old suspect of capital murder in the killing of a Mexican national found dead behind a vacant home in Edinburg, Texas last week.
