It's a gift that can keep on giving and Staunton employees hope will make a difference.
Gulport, Mississippi has been devastated as Hurricane Katrina ripped through the city. As people continue to rebuild, Staunton city employees are trying to help.
Park and Recreation employees kicked off Project Give, a 20 day campaign to raise as much money and collect as many toys as they can to send down the city. Donations will directly benefit the children in this area with toys for the holidays, and will be delivered personally by the department.
“Right now, with everyone shopping and buying things for each other, I feel sort of guilty," says Greg Beam of Staunton's Park and Recreation Department. "I feel bad having this luxurious holiday while there are other people who don't even have homes."
Project Give runs until December 20. If you would like to make a difference, contact Staunton Parks and Recreations at 332-3945.
