Flooding Aftermath

Wednesday's bright sunshine was quite a change from Tuesday's rain, but it wasn't hard to find remnants from the storm.

Route 610 towards Stuarts Draft was closed and still under water. Other roads were dry in sharp contrast to Tuesday's submerged roadways.

The owner of one home on Mount Torrey Road said she didn't suffer any damage, and the water had begun subsiding.

The fire department said they answered about a dozen calls in all, including the evacuation of some 40 homes in Creekside Mobile Home Park. Fire officials said calls kept coming well after the rain stopped.

"People were trying to cross over high water in the evening and afternoon and into the late night hours," said Captain Jeff Messer. "I guess they were just anxious and wanted to get home."

Messer said Tuesday went well but it would help next time if every family plans its evacuation route before the storm.
