Lawmakers are hoping Gov. Joe Manchin includes relief from high gas prices in the special legislative session he's expected to announce for Tuesday.
Legislative leaders say Manchin has discussed addressing fuel costs, but they won't know of any specific proposals until the official session call.
West Virginia has the 13th highest gas taxes in the country. But the resulting revenue is also key source of the state's ailing road fund.
Manchin has said he will propose a $5 million measure to help county schools with their fuel bills.
Lawmakers say Manchin's agenda may also include a half-dozen or so bills vetoed from this year's regular session, mostly because of technical defects.
Manchin also plans to ask for an estimated $24 million for teacher pension transfers.
