The flu is off to a slow start here in the Valley.

From Emergency Department and physicians reports, the reported cases of influenza are below average up to this point.

The Health Department is reporting sporadic cases, meaning very little activity.

Flu season runs from November to March, so an outbreak of the flu could still happen this season, but many residents are taking the preventive measure.

"This year however, they made the most number of vaccine doses they have ever had and as a result we were able to get to a lot of people, we started in October and went through November and December and finally ran out of our supply in the end of December," says Health Director, Dr. Doug Larsen.

Larsen adds that it getting a flu shot halfway through flu season is still effective in preventing the spread of the disease.
