Your help is needed in keeping a local crime fighting group up and running. The Harrisonburg/Rockingham Weed and Seed Program says it needs you to talk to your leaders about how important the group is.
Weed and Seed relies on funding from the Harrisonburg City Council and the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors. Director Ramona Rogers is concerned they won't get funding this upcoming fiscal year. Weed and Seed has applied to the federal government for some funding to expand its program. But if it doesn't receive funding on a local level, it’s a chance that the federal government won't fund them either.
"Research shows that the more residents come out and speak for the program and different needs in their neighborhoods, governing bodies tend to hear more and they will support the resident’s request," says Rogers.
Rogers says you can call elected officials or go speak at their meetings.
