A new compactor at the Battle Creek Landfill promises to save space. The county has money budgeted to purchase the $70,000 trash compactor in its landfill funds. The Director of Public Works, Henry Mikus says the machine will pay for itself within 40 weeks thanks to the space it will save. The used piece of equipment is expected to arrive in two weeks. It'll save space until November when a brand new compactor arrives, then it'll be used as a backup.
