The monumental ruling that came down from the U.S. Supreme Court Thursday regarding Americans' right to bear arms has people in the Valley talking.

Chris Kincheloe owns Nuckols Gun Works in Staunton. A staunch proponent of a person's right to bear arms, Kincheloe says the Supreme Court's ruling is a monumental one for all Americans.

He says, "I believe that most Americans who want to keep firearms in their house, have the right to keep firearms in their house, and I truly believe the second amendment was designed for a lot of those reasons that Americans should have the right to bear arms."

Kincheloe says gun owners should expect to see a rise in sales because of the ruling.

He comments, "I believe that there probably will be a spike in citizens buying handguns for their protection and for their home in D.C."

While Kincheloe supports gun owners, there are opponents to the ruling, including some who say gun violence is continually escalating.

John Pasha recalls, "I've been mugged before, at gun point and I basically think that even the good people who have the guns, they end up in the wrong peoples' hands all the time, and at a certain point, it's just too dangerous."

Much like Pashsa, Sandra Golladay says, "They just had a drive-by the other day, you know. So it's just going to make it worse. It's not going to help."

However, Kincheloe maintains having a gun should be a decision left to each individual.

He says, "If they want to protect themselves and feel like they should have a handgun in their residence to protect themselves, then they should be awarded the right to keep that handgun in their house."

Kincheloe also says there are classes many gun owners can take to educate themselves on how to use a weapon, if they do come in and purchase one for home protection like many of his customers are doing.

a class should be required to have the guns. it is so easy to think you "know-it-all" but you usually don't. after that let them have them!

I don't see how banning guns would keep them out of the hands of the wrong people. These individuals would just buy the guns "underground illegally" like drugs. Do you think criminals would say "Oh guns are illegal now, so I can't get one." No, of course they wouldn't. Why not let people own guns so at least they can protect themselves when they get mugged or robbed.
