HARRISONBURG, Va.--- AAA Mid-Atlantic predicts gas prices to be lower than in 2012 this labor day weekend.
The average gas price in Virginia for the week of Aug. 25 is $3.36. Last year, the price was nearly $3.60.
In the Harrisonburg area, prices are lower than the national average for this week.
AAA experts do not believe pump prices are a major deciding factor for consumers considering traveling this holiday.
Driver Bonnie Tomlinson said lower gas prices may encourage more people to do so.
"If they can save on gas, I think they would go further and they would have more money to spend elsewhere," said Tomlinson. " You are kind of limited when gas is so high, you can do but so much."
AAA projects more than 34 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more. This is a four percent increase than last year.
More people are expected to travel by car compared to 2012.
