D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson plans to introduce legislation this week in response to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the city's handgun ban.

A draft of the bill to be introduced Tuesday still requires firearms in the home to be unloaded, disassembled and trigger-locked, but the bill would add an exemption for "immediate self-defense."

The bill also repeals the city's prohibition on handguns, while requiring a ballistics record for each handgun that is registered. The legislation also calls for a waiting period for registering firearms.

Jason Shedlock, a senior policy analyst for Mendelson, says the bill is meant to be a starting point as the city begins crafting new rules in response to last week's Supreme Court decision.

While their at it, make sure the criminals breaking into homes also have their weapons unloaded, disassembled and with trigger locks on too. Let's make it fair. Ridiculous!

Unloaded, disassembled and trigger-locked? All you'll have time for in a situation of "immediate self-defense is to pick it up and throw it at the assailant, hoping you hit them in the head with it. What a joke. Be prepared for the death toll among innocents to rise, not decline, in D.C. if this ever passes.
