A woman from McGaheysville has gotten the chance to try for a team heading to the Beijing Games. She is currently at the Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

Sara Smith is currently a junior at Virginia Tech, but you may remember her as a Student Athlete of the Week from December 2004. That's when Smith was a Senior at Spotswood High School.

Now, she's hoping to take her talents to the largest stage in the world: the Summer Olympic Games.

Smith will get a chance to qualify for the 100-meter freestyle on Thursday and for the 50-meter freestyle on Saturday.

She currently holds the school records for both of those events at Virginia Tech.
