More than 160 companies can begin offering workers' compensation insurance in West Virginia on Tuesday.

BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Co. has been the sole provider of workers' compensation insurance since the Legislature abolished the state Workers' Compensation Commission. That will change on Tuesday, when the market will be opened to other insurers.

Insurance Commissioner Jane Cline says employers will be able choose a carrier based on their needs.

Cline says 162 companies have filed paperwork with her office to offer workers' compensation insurance in West Virginia.

Congrats to Jane Cline and her staff for completing a "tiger-by-the-tail" task. This can only help the companies and citizens of WV now and for many years into the future. Hats are off to Governor Manchin for keeping the faith in a free market system.
