For ten years, it's been an ongoing process, but it may finally be turning into an upscale shopping center in Staunton.

Although still under review, the Frontier Culture Museum has 50 acres of surplus land that may house the Center at Staunton in the future.

The development would include everything from retail to banking to restaurants to a theater and other hospitality.

John Avoli, the Executive Director of the museum, says that drawing in tourism is the big push behind the center.

"And this is perhaps the Virginia version of Tamarack, and I think the version that we saw, the preliminary plans are absolutely beautiful. I think they'll be very compatible with what we're trying to do here. So we're looking at a very, very major retail area number one, but number two, tourism and the draw of tourism," says Avoli.

Avoli says they hope to make a public announcement concerning the outcome of the land in the very near future.
