Fire and rescue crews in Waynesboro often have to drive through red lights or wait for a light to turn green while they are on their way to an emergency.

City officials are trying to change that by considering if the city should purchase traffic devices that allow rescue crews to press a button that changes the light to green when they need to drive through.

Interim city manager Mike Hamp says the growing size of the River City and increased traffic are reasons to consider the devices.

Hamp comments, "Often times, newer technologies are implemented in larger localities and more urban areas and they are starting to become more common among middle sized and smaller communities and you know, I think our time is approaching."

Hamp says putting one of the devices into a traffic signal costs $11,000. Each rescue vehicle would also have to be outfitted with the device which will cost another $1,700.

I think the idea of a device on the lights for fire trucks and first aid vechicles would be a good thing if it is used right and it is safe for the public.

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
