Saving Your Basement

A local waterproofing company says a rubber polymer spray can be applied to concrete foundations. The chemical works as a barrier against any moisture trying to seep through the cement.

If you notice excess water in your basement, you need to take care of it immediately to prevent a possible cave in.

"You would notice that through some cracking," says Brent Yoder of Valley Waterproofing. "If you're seeing cracking in your foundation or you notice there is a bulge in your wall then you definitely need to address the situation as soon as possible."

Other alternatives include having a sump pump installed in your basement, so water will drain faster.
