A Crimora man charged with six armed robberies in our area is also accused of scamming people out of money long before the robberies took place.
Back in 2003, Brian Eugene Brubaker pleaded guilty to a total of five charges ranging from bad checks to construction fraud, but that still didn't stop him. On Sunday, another family came forward to tell their story.
According to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations, in 2006, Brubaker provided Gary and Rose Perisi of Louisa an estimate on a contract that later changed during work on the project.
The Perisi's say Brubaker never finished the job on their Louisa home, but completed just enough work that court fees ended up costing more than what it cost to finish the job. In the end, DPOR revoked Brubaker's license and he was fined almost $5,000.
Earlier in the week, another family in Crimora that was also allegedly scammed out of thousands of dollars spoke out. Larry Palmer of Waynesboro was the first to come forward, and he says he's not surprised that the list is getting longer. Now he says something needs to be done.
"I can't understand why they're not stepping up to the plate, digging into this, and find out what's really going on, and to get this man straightened out so that no one else will get hurt," says Palmer.
In the case of the Perisi family, DPOR says that Brubaker failed to operate in the name in which his license was issued; failed to include all required provisions in the written contract; failed to respond to an investigator; abandoned the project; and retained funds related to uncompleted contract items.
Palmer and the Louisa family say their projects had similar problems.
