Harrisonburg School Board has finally decided where children will be going to school.
The option chosen includes making the elementary schools K-4, with building one new school. Thomas Harrison Middle School will be turned into a fifth and sixth grade school. The current high school will be turned into a seventh and eighth grade school.
Board members said public support for this plan was overwhelming.
"Yes, it was a very difficult decision," said Harrisonburg School Board Chair. Greg Coffman. "The fact that the board finally voted on this particular option in a 6-0 vote. A unanimous vote says we took the right course and did the right thing."
The next step is coming up with a plan of action on how to get these schools online. The board hopes to have the new configuration in place by fall 2005.
