State police said Suzane Herring's van nose-dived 300 feet over Shenandoah Mountain Wednesday afternoon.

Rescue workers hoisted Herring up the mountain and Pegasus flew her to UVA Medical Center. Police said her injuries were not life threatening.

But, they said she was very lucky that someone saw her van go off the road. Witness Rahul Durve said he and one other person walked down the mountain to try to help Herring.

"She said she was OK. She couldn't move her leg and her neck and she had pain. But we just kept her talking," Durve said.

Traffic was shut down completely for about two hours.
