Insurance Claims

Some people who tried to file small weather related claims found themselves at risk of losing their homeowners insurance.

Insurance carriers said they're losing money on homeowners insurance and some have stopped offering it altogether. Insurance agents are recommending homeowners avoid filing small claims and pay for the damage out of their own pocket.

"We're telling our insurers you may want to take care of it yourself and even raise your deductible in order to get credit for that so that if you do have a small claim it won't hurt you. Save it for that catastrophic loss,” said Parmer Bradley of Bradley Insurance Services.

Bradley advises looking for an agent with more than one carrier. That way if you do get into trouble, you can be switched to another carrier.
