Forty Rockingham Memorial Hospital physicians are asking City Council to impose a tobacco tax for the well being of the community.
Doctor William Lee says studies have shown that when localities raise or impose a tobacco tax, consumption goes down. He says smokers either quit or cut back.
The group of physicians approaching council says it doesn't care how much money it brings in or where it goes, they just want Harrisonburg to be a healthier community.
