The federal Environmental Protection Agency is teaming with two Virginia colleges to boost students' knowledge of air pollution and other topics.

The EPA announced Wednesday a partnership with Norfolk State University and Hampton University through which the agency will help provide education on environmental matters.

The EPA awarded a $50,000 grant to Norfolk State and a $49,995 grant to Hampton University for the effort.

The partnership with Norfolk State will involve ninth-graders in the Hampton Roads area learning about air pollution and environmental science.

The Hampton University project is designed to enhance a graduate curriculum and air quality research in the area.
