Engineers are taking measurements before they start construction on widening Reservoir Street in Harrisonburg.

City officials recently approved the plans to widen Reservoir Street from University Boulevard to the Harrisonburg city limits.

With increased retail shops along Reservoir Street, the extra lanes should reduce congestion in the area.

Expanding the road will also improve travel to and from the new hospital, as well as give people an alternative to Port Republic Road.

The project will take three to five years to complete.
