Virginia sophomore quarterback Peter Lalich faces a misdemeanor alcohol charge.

Alcoholic Beverage Control agents cited the 20-year-old Lalich for unlawful purchase and possession of alcohol on July 13. The 6-foot-5 Springfield native appeared Monday in Charlottesville General District Court.

According to court records, Lalich's case was continued until July 21, 2009. If Lalich avoids further trouble, the charge will be dropped then.

A U.Va. spokesman said coach Al Groh wouldn't comment on Lalich's case.

Lalich played in seven games during the 2007 season. He is one of three players vying to be the Cavaliers' starting quarterback for the 2008 season.
