Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling has been elected Vice Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association. Bolling was elected Vice Chairman of the NLGA at the Association’s annual meeting in Buffalo, New York on July 25. Bolling had previously served as Treasurer of the NLGA and he also serves on the Association’s Executive Committee.

“I am honored that my colleagues from across the country have asked me to serve as Vice Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association this year,” says Bolling. “I look forward to working with them to continue the good work NLGA has done in the past and help direct the Association’s attention toward some of the most important issues currently facing Virginia and other states.”

The NLGA was formed in 1962 and is the professional association for elected officials who are first in line of succession to the Governors of the 50 states and five territorial jurisdictions of the United States. The NLGA provides its members an opportunity to network, discuss issues of common interest, share best practices and foster interstate cooperation. The NLGA also seeks to promote the effectiveness of the Office of Lieutenant Governor and its inhabitants.

Bolling was first elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2005. Prior to that, Bolling served ten years in the Senate of Virginia and four years as a member and Chairman of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors. Bolling recently announced his intention to seek reelection to the Office of Lieutenant Governor in 2009.
