A Valley man is in serious condition Tuesday night at the University of Virginia Medical Center after falling 40-feet at a local high school. Steve Henry of Stanly is a maintenance worker at Luray High School. He was walking across a cat walk while working on the air conditioning. He stepped off the wooden portion onto a ceiling tile and feel 40-feet into the school's auditorium. It happened around 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. Henry was flown to the UVA Medical Center. School officials say he was alert when rescue personnel responded to the accident. There was a choir class of about 20 students in the auditorium when the accident happened. Principal David Ponn says while concerned about Henry, they also had to make sure the students were okay. "We moved those students out of here immediately to guidance to receive services from our guidance counselors and also the elementary guidance counselors," says Luray High School Principal David Ponn. Ponn says he doesn't believe the age of the building had anything to do with the accident.
