The Harrisonburg Police Department reports a black bear has been spotted in the area near Purcell Park. It was last seen around Moffett Terrace and Fairview Avenue.

Police are not currently looking for the animal, but they will look into any new possible sightings should one be called in.

If a resident sees the bear, they are advised to keep away from it and they should keep their animals away as well, especially dogs that might bark at it.
