Local Colleges Bring More People to the Area

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Several local colleges in the valley are on the list for the Nation's best colleges to work for.

More than 300 colleges and universities took part in the survey, sampling faculty and staff to determine how satisfied people were with their job.

Both James Madison University and Blue Ridge Community College are on the list. It turns out 20 percent of full-time employees at JMU are alumni.

Frank Tamberrino, the president of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, said the quality of life in the Shenandoah Valley draws more people to find work in the area.

"This is an area that businesses come to specifically for the work force as much as anything else because it's a great work ethic and we show very well in comparison to other areas. Not all communities in the united states can boast the same quality of work force that we do," Tamberrino said.

This is the first time JMU has made it onto the list. Other schools across Virginia made the list including George Mason, and Washington and Lee Universities.
