Fort Defiance High School has gone through a big transformation and it's all thanks to students, teachers, and the Augusta County Community.
Saturday was the final day of what organizers are calling Extreme Makeover: School Edition in Augusta County.
It has been a month and a half in the making, and now students, teachers, and many others are putting the final touches on a fresh new look for Fort Defiance High School.
Student, Ernesto Sanchez, says, "Compared to how it used to look, it looks tremendously better, out of this world."
A Fort Defiance alum and one of the main organizers behind the makeover, Richard Halterman, says he couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. He hopes other schools in the area join in on the fun.
He says, "My motivational factor is hoping some of the other schools jump in. I mean it's a really cool thing. It teaches kids when they are fixing stuff, they are less likely to tear it up."
Their work has rubbed off on other schools. Buffalo Gap and Spottswood high schools have already shown interest in doing their own school makeovers.
Becky Swanson, SCA President and soon-to-be senior at Fort Defiance, says she is thrilled other schools are catching on.
She says, "I think it's amazing that we can set an example because that is what we, as leaders, like to do. Also, we can get inspiration from other schools if they come up with new and cool ideas to use."
Swanson also thinks the makeover is going to give Fort Defiance a big boost into the coming school year.
She adds, "I think it's going to start the school year off awesome. Everyone is going to come in and just be amazed at how much work has been done in two months."
