Consumers who want to block telemarketing calls will have the chance to begin signing up for the new national Do Not Call list in July.
The Federal Trade Commission has released its schedule for launching the registry, which is being created under legislation that President Bush signed earlier this month.
The FTC says when registration opens in July, consumers will have two ways to sign up: online or by telephone. The Web site address and the toll-free number will be announced in June.
Officials say after you add your phone number to the list, you should begin to receive fewer unwanted telemarketing calls in about three months.
By October, it will be illegal for telemarketers to call any number in the registry. Each violation will bring a fine of up to $11,000.
