Augusta County will now be sending a request to the state for drought relief.

The county board of supervisors approved the request at a meeting Wednesday night, hoping to eventually receive aid following continuously dry conditions this summer.

The board heard from extension agents about local conditions on Monday. Samples from crops and pastures across the county revealed that a significant number of areas met drought requirements, with southern areas being worse than others.

This resolution to Gov. Tim Kaine would make them eligible for aid.
