A karate teacher in Suffolk has been found not guilty of child abuse stemming from charges that she kicked students more than 200 times during a November class.

Susan Bateman of Hampton was cleared in the trial on Thursday in Suffolk Circuit Court.

Police say the 47-year-old issued a challenge during class at a Suffolk dojo to see how many kicks to the abdomen students could take. Students got into a push-up position while Bateman kicked, stopping when the student either said to or went to his or her knees.

One boy said the kicks caused abrasions and blood in his urine.
