A Charleston man who fed meat-wrapped razor blades to his neighbor's four dogs will spend one to three years in prison.

John F. Hively was sentenced Wednesday in Kanawha County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to one count of felony animal cruelty. In exchange for his February plea, three other counts were dropped.

According to a criminal complaint, all four dogs suffered cuts in their mouths in June 2005. One dog had a razor blade in its stomach and had to have surgery.

Sheriff's deputies found razor blades and rubber gloves with meat on them in Hively's trash.
