The federal government plans to review whether Bayer CropScience complied with chemical accident notification requirements after an explosion at the company's Institute plant.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency spokesman Roy Seneca says the agency will evaluate the incident, then make a decision about whether to take enforcement action.

One worker was killed and another seriously injured in the August 28 explosion and fire in a unit that makes pesticide.

Kanawha County officials say that for at least two hours after the blast, Bayer officials wouldn't provide basic information such as where in the plant the explosion occurred.

Records also show Bayer waited more than two hours before alerting federal environmental officials.

Bayer says it shared all information as it became available.
