Timberville, Va. The Timberville Town Council is trying to decide whether or not to stop putting fluoride in its water supply, and officials went home Monday night with a lot to think about.

The Timberville Town Council is trying to decide whether or not to stop putting fluoride in its water supply, and officials went home Monday night with a lot to think about.
Dr. Lisa Syrop with the Virginia Department of Health said fluoride in the water helps prevent tooth decay, especially to lower-income families who cannot afford dentists.
However, Dr. David Kennedy, a dentist, said putting fluoride in water exceeds recommended consumption doses for infants and children, which can cause adverse health effects in the future.
Timberville Mayor Don DeLaughter says the forum provided a good foundation on both sides of the issue for officials to make an informed decision.
He says, "This is a topic that's very passionate with the citizens and the council. Several councilmen have said they are against fluoride, and several are definitely for fluoride, so it's going to be a very close decision Thursday."
On Thursday, the Timberville Town Council plans to vote on whether or not to continue water fluoridation. Citizens will be able to make comments before the final vote is determined.

For most of you who missed the debate you can several presentations as debates are very rare as even when many are invited most fluoridation supporters especially health departments and dentists refuse to debate. I had 5 radio talk shows and the use of a city building for a debate and the health department people refused to answer my calls or emails after that. It is relatively easy to prove most all their claims are disproved by current science. Rather then be proven fools they just keep repeating the simplistic claims and most believe they must be true. Dentists mostly have no clue of the current science. Indiana dental professionals were tested but only 17% knew the current science of fluoride. Most still strongly believe the disproved theory that ingested fluoride in children makes teeth form cavity resistant. The CDC and ADA do not share this fact that it is only a topical effect not ingested. Featherstone 2000
The most current review Pizzo 2007 showed clearly again that the false claim of decreasing social inequities happens. Dr. Osmonson showed with the CDC own data this has not happened in a single state or DC. States with 100% fluoridation and a wide range down to 8% fluoridation all show income is a consistant predictor and fluoridation makes ZERO difference. The WHO data show clearly that cavities were decreasing before fluoridation and decreased at the same rate after and fluoridated toothpaste did not change the rate of decline either. Very few countries fluoridate and the much larger number of non fluoridated countries have improved dental health as much or more. The very large UK university of York review 2000 also could find no decrease of social inequity. They did look at 3200 studies and did not find one single study rated high quality bias free to show benefit or no negative health effects.
