It's back to school Tuesday for a number of Augusta County students who were involved in a crash involving their school bus and another car on their way home from school Monday afternoon.
Police say the road is narrow, but school district officials say the buses must travel where the students live, regardless of the size of the road.
Hangers Mill Road is considerably narrower than most roads buses travel.
State police say the bus and a car collided because as they were coming around a curve, and neither had time to move over far enough to let the other one pass.
Bill Schindler, who is the head of transportation for the school district, says all of the buses are the same width and the routes are routinely inspected.
Schindler adds, "We do go about and look at the routes. If they're in safe areas then we do make decisions, but Hangers Mill Road and the narrowness of the road is not uncommon with some of the roads that we have in our county."
Schindler says there aren't too many bus crashes on rural roads. However, Monday's crash was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
