Opportunity Crimes on the Rise

Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Staunton have all seen a rise.

Staunton Officer Doug Fry says the past few months have been getting hectic. The weather is warming up and people are leaving things out.

"People are getting comfortable," said Fry. "They're leaving bicycles, lawn mowers in the yard instead of putting them in a secure place."

Once you make it easy for your car or other property to get stolen, it's not likely you'll get it back, at least, not the way you left it.

"A lot of times, they're chopped up in pieces and sold as soon as they leave," added Fry.

But there is something you can do. Lock it up.
