Harrisonburg City Council has decided to cut the board's budget from $39.5 million to $39 million.

Also, Council has decided against an increase in the meals tax. The proposed new cigarette tax has been cut from 50 cents a pack to 30 cents per pack. A one percent increase in the hotel tax has been proposed, too.

Overall, the new taxes will give the city an extra $2.5 million.
