A new coalition dedicated to health care reform says it has the support of the majority of West Virginia residents.
The coalition, called West Virginians' Campaign for a Healthy Future, commissioned a poll in which 88 percent of the respondents said they'd support changes to the state's health care system.
The poll also found that 33 percent of West Virginia's low-income residents haven't gone to the doctor in the past year because of the cost. And 19 percent didn't go because there was no physician available in their area.
The poll of 625 people was conducted in August by Global Strategy Group of New York and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percent.
The coalition is made up of 37 businesses, labor, health care advocacy and provider groups. It will be working with legislators to make sure any health care legislation meets its standards. Those include allowing all West Virginians affordable access to high-quality health care and continuous, comprehensive coverage.
