The second year of the the Big Read kicks off Friday at the Massanutten Regional Library.

All nine of the library's locations will give out a total of 4,000 free copies of Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

Library officials want to remind people how important it is to read.

"A lot of our heritage is based on story telling. From generation to generation, from Bergton to Criders and over to Page County and Stanley. Families enjoy that. That's how they carry on their family history," says Phil Hearne, the Massanutten Region Library Director.

The campaign kicks off at Noon on Court Square. If it's raining, the event will be moved to the main branch of the library.
