More than 300 military personnel from all branches of the armed services are in Fayette County for the eighth annual All-Military Wilderness Challenge.

Class VI-Mountain River is hosting the Friday and Saturday event.

Event organizers say more than 60 teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard signed up Thursday for the challenge. There will be team and individual winners from each branch.

The event includes a 13-mile whitewater rafting trip down the lower Gauley River, a half-mile swim, 14-mile mountain biking challenge and 15-mile hike.

Mike Bond, event director with the Navy, says the event is about camaraderie, teamwork and meeting tough and challenging conditions.
