Republican Jim Gilmore and Democrat Mark Warner clashed early and fiercely over Friday's Wall Street bailout bill, drawing sharp contrasts between them.

Gilmore said the $700 billion banking industry bailout was a rip-off of taxpayers and that he would have voted against it in Friday night's U.S. Senate campaign debate.

He said it was wrong to take that much taxpayer money and give it to Wall Street high rollers.

Warner said he wasn't happy with the bill, but that he would have supported it because the alternative was financial catastrophe.

Warner noted that both presidential candidates supported it, as did both Virginia senators, Republican John Warner and Democrat Jim Webb.
