In the search for 50-year-old Earl Funk of Staunton, there is no good news. One week after he was last seen in the Shenandoah National Park, search teams still have no signs of him.

They focused their search Monday inside the park itself and teams are dealing with thick brush and cliffs in the area. Forty-nine people were out searching, which is fewer than the 90-person team that was out Sunday.

Students from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management were helping out in the search as part of their training Sunday.

Funk was last seen in the Cedar Mountain area of the park last Monday. Searchers say no significant clues have been found to date and survival at this point depends on the capability of the person.

This is the eighth day that Funk has been missing.

The search is a joint operation between Shenandoah National Park and the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office. These agencies are currently being assisted by Albemarle County Police Department, Virginia State Police dog team, Dogs East, Blue and Gray Search and Rescue Dogs, K-9 Alert, Greene County Sheriff's Office, Appalachian Search and Rescue, Rockingham Augusta Search and Rescue, DELMARVA Search and Rescue, Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Green Mountain National Forest.

Additional National Park Service employees from Richmond and Fredericksburg National Battlefields, Harpers Ferry and Independence National Historic Parks, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cape Cod National Seashore, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, Acadia National Park, and Gateway National Recreation Area have come to assist in the search.

Anyone with any information about Funk is asked to call Shenandoah National Park at 1-800-732-0911. For additional information about the search and rescue operation please call 540-999-3300.
