A police chase that injured two officers, totaled four police cruisers and shut down parts of Waynesboro ended Monday night.

It all started before 9 p.m. with a routine traffic stop. A 26-year-old Waynesboro man, Ian Daniel Kasdan, who was wanted for robberies in Harrisonburg, was stopped in Waynesboro.

He refused to give his ID and police say that's when the man took out a tire iron and tried to attack one of them.

Officers say Kasdan then got into his car, threw it into reverse and rammed into the front of a police cruiser before taking off.

The Kasda led police on a 12 minute high speed pursuit that eventually came to a stop on Ivy Street. The suspect had to be tasered before being arrested.

In all, two Waynesboro officers suffered minor injuries and four police cruisers had to be towed away.

Ivy Street was shut down while police cleared up the scene. Police say one other vehicle was hit, but no one on the street was injured.

Sgt. Brain Edwards says, "We were going through some residential areas, taking due caution as to what was going on. Being very early still in the evening, we were very concerned about other people walking on the roadway."

Waynesboro police, state police and Augusta County deputies were involved in the high speed chase.

ok, at first they said residents heard gunshots but the police denied it. Then they admit 2 shots were fired when they had him cornered at Kate Collins school. When are we going to hold the police to the same standards they are sworn to uphold? Do we really belive they tried to shoot out his tires or shoot him?

What is sad is that there are only five Waynesboro police workers on duty at night. If two of them are injured, that only leaves three to patrol the streets of the entire city.

Five Waynesboro and one Augusta county cop equals four totaled cruisers. Can we say 'overkill'?
