There have been several cases in the past week of people breaking into homes and looking for cash up and down the Valley.

The largest was a theft of $30,000 from an elderly woman in Augusta County. That burglary happened at the Mint Spring Apartments just west of Interstate 81. Deputies say the cash was stolen from the woman's apartment on Friday. About $1,000 in jewelry was also taken.

Deputies in Shenandoah County are dealing with a similar case. They say someone broke into a home on Stoneburner Road in Edinburg Friday night and stole hundreds of dollars in antique coins. A pistol was also stolen from the home.

Deputies in Rockingham County are also investigating several residential break-ins. Seven of them were reported in the county in September. Elkton, Hinton, and Timberville each had two home break-ins. Bergton had one.

Harrisonburg Police are investigating a string of slashed tires from over the weekend. Two cars had their tires cut on Purple and Gold Way, and another car's tire was slashed on Hunters Road during the same time period.

Staunton Police are looking for a green 1995 Chrysler Cirrus that was stolen from the 800 block of Greenville Avenue in late September. The vehicle was parked in the parking lot of BC Auto.

If you have any information about these thefts or vandalism cases, please call your local police department or sheriff's office.
