The manager of the plant that was the site of a deadly explosion in Institute has apologized to residents for not better communicating with emergency responders after the blast.

Bayer CropScience plant manager Nick Crosby says the company didn't give emergency crews or area residents enough detail immediately after the explosion. Firefighters and others had complained that the lack of communication hindered their efforts.

Speaking during a community meeting Wednesday night, Crosby said the plant should have better communicated with the community the night of the August 28 explosion and fire.

One plant worker was killed and another was seriously injured in a unit that makes pesticide.
