The Salvation Army is closing its thrift store in Hurricane.

Capt. Tom Richmond, commander of the local chapter, cited declining sales and donations over the past four years, along with increased costs. Richmond said the store will close on October 24.

The Salvation Army will continue to operate a food bank, church programs, Boys and Girls Club and Camp Happy Valley in Putnam County.

Last year, the Salvation Army closed its St. Albans store, citing low sales, high rent and fear of vagrants in the neighborhood.
