The Waynesboro City Council discussed financial issues related to a new fire station for the west end of town at the Tuesday night meeting.

Residents approved the new $2.6 million fire station on a referendum ballot last November. Tuesday night, the council discussed whether that money would be enough for staffing and equipment.

The cost of the building itself would be one-time only, but additional staffing and equipment could require more taxes from residents.

The council decided to move forward with borrowing the $2.6 million for the project.

If money is left over, it would be used for stormwater utility issues.
