Ever wonder if the state is serious about making business owners pay workers' compensation fees?

Elkins Tire Co. doesn't wonder anymore. It has been shut down by the Randolph County sheriff and was circled with yellow tape Tuesday.

Kanawha County Circuit Judge Irene Berger ordered the company to cease operation until further notice. Owner Kenneth Paugh Sr. faces a $10,000 fine.

He was found in contempt of court October 22 for failing to appear and explain why he had ignored a previous order to pay the West Virginia Insurance Commission.
