Virginia's 5th District congressional race remains too close to call.

Democratic challenger Tom Perriello held an 81-vote lead over Republican incumbent Virgil Goode in unofficial returns Wednesday afternoon. A recount appears likely.

In Virginia, the trailing candidate can demand a recount if the margin is less than one percent, and the Goode-Perriello race was well within that margin.

Democrat Glenn Nye defeated Republican incumbent Thelma Drake in the 2nd District, and Democrat Gerald Connolly won the open seat of retiring Republican Tom Davis in the 11th. That means the partisan breakdown in Virginia's congressional delegation will be 6-5, with the outcome of the Perriello-Goode race determining which party has the advantage.
