Monday night was the last City Council meeting of the month for Waynesboro and also the last meeting for two of its council members. One of the two has served 16 years on the City Council.

Lemuel Irvin won his first seat on the Waynesboro City Council in 1978, he has seen a lot over the years. He says he has fought hard for a lot of things while on council, but one fight will always stand out to him.

"The one I fought the hardest for was Springdale housing for the elderly," said Irvin.

Lemuel says the City Council has made a lot of good decisions over the years and overcame a lot of challenges.

"Well that goes back to Springdale again because of the argument that some of the residents put up about building that project, and after we were able to get it pass and built, many of those people thought it was a good idea to build it."

Irvin feels there is a lot more work to be done, he has been disappointed about some things and would like to see them accomplished.

"Not getting positive results from some of the studies we made on the downtown area was a disappointment, said Irvin. "I still have hope that the downtown area will be developed, not like it once was but as a thriving business area once again."

Irvin says he may run again.
